Serpent In The Tree

from Morning Epilogue by Trees of December

/

about

This is an obvious one about the serpent that Adam and Eve had encountered. I don't believe in the actual concept or story, but I do find the deception meaningful. In that position, I'd feel fast and coherent enough to know what's happening and run away. However, I get bit and as I lay dying from the venom, I see the stars in the sky and think about life outside of earth. It's so much more alive up there and, of course, no snakes.

lyrics

"Serpent In The Tree"

Take away your backbone,
and your left with scales and other slimy things.
Sharp teeth caving in.

You thought it was the last one,
but then you felt the bite it gave.
A serpent struck a fast one.
Never time to run away.

Pissed off that no one sees you.
Venom pissed from your mouth.
Watch the clouds pass by.
See the birds at flight.
Stars stuck in the sky.
Up there, it's so alive.

Slither up the limb,
Squeeze tight.
Choke all the anger.
Went from blue to blind.
In time it all fades away.

Waiting by the tree just to please you.
Venom pissed from your mouth.
Watch the clouds pass by.
See the birds at flight.
Stars stuck in the sky,
Up there, it's so alive.
